Breaker Morant, a film about the Boer War, will be screened at the Bermuda National Library on Tuesday, January 17 at 7pm. It’s a joint project of the Bermuda Historical Society and the Department of Culture. Boer prisoners were shipped off to Bermuda to serve out their time at internment camps. The Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra, the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra and classical pianist Gabriela Montero are among the offerings at this year’s Bermuda Festival. The Festival opens on Tuesday, January 17 and runs though the end of February. Check out www.bermudafestival.org for more info.

Victor Scott Primary School, which has a proud legacy in its former incarnation as Central School, is holding an day-long open house on Thursday, January 19. Organisers say it’s “an attempt to demonstrate the exciting things that are currently happening at our school”. Central was formally opened in May 1931. Masterworks’ newest exhibition ‘A Rock and an Ocean’ is set to open on Friday, December 15. It is Masterworks’ 25th anniversary show and works by famous artists who wintered in Bermuda will be featured.

There’s now a beautifully illustrated book to guide you through Graham Foster’s spectacular ‘Hall of History’ mural at Commissioner’s House in Dockyard. Bermuda’s Story in Art, written by Rosemary Jones, contains 208 colour photographs of scenes in the 1ooo-square foot mural that depicts 500 years of Bermuda’s history. The book costs $65.
